Holders of the reader Kindle, as well as users of the same name branded applications can borrow e-books in more than 11 thousands of U.S. libraries, according to the device manufacturer – online retailer Amazon.

Reader owners, as well as the owners of gadgets with free application Kindle (iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Android-powered devices, and BlackBerry OS, Windows and Mac OS) can rent electronic books on the websites of Amazon partner libraries.

“Local libraries are a fundamentally important part of our community,” – says Amazon.

After the user has found the right book on the site of the library, he can select “Send to Kindle”.

It will be referred to the site of Amazon, where you need to enter details of your account, after which the book will be delivered to the device via Wi-Fi or USB-connection.

In the latter case, the reader should be connected with a cable.

Amazon preserves all the functionality of electronic books for the Kindle for library books, including the technology to synchronize your notes and Whispersync, mapping the real page numbers, as well as integration with Facebook and Twitter.

Amazon was not the first to promote the electronic versions of library books – a similar service is already available to the owners of Nook from Barnes & Noble and Sony Reader. Many libraries offer access to their electronic publications to laptop users, tablet and smartphone users, writes The New York Times.

The availability of electronic publications of libraries on readers contradicts a little the standard business model: reader producers and owners of online shops (Amazon in this case), as a rule, work with book publishers, for whom the sale of electronic publishing is more profitable than rent.

As previously reported, Amazon is conducting talks with book publishers to launch its own online libraries.

The service will be available for users of Amazon Prime which costs $ 79 per year, which now involves accelerated delivery of goods and the access to online library of movies and TV shows.

Amazon currently sells paper and electronic books, arrange the resale of used books, as well as support the rent of e-textbooks.

Since April this year, the number of e-books sold by Amazon, is more than the number of sold print publications.
